Imagine with me for a moment. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
You are standing at the head of the mountain, the sun rises to a beautiful melody from a chorus of birds, and the morning dawn is saying hello to the morning fog that mystically seeps it’s way into your skin.
You are alone, yet you know you aren’t. There is something that you feel that is larger than life. He is the author of this all, He is the author of your morning song. He is the author of your every moment: whether you are at the foot or the head of the mountain.
Seasons come and go. We may look towards other things to temporarily satisfy us: materialistic possessions, relationships, basic needs like food, water and shelter, etc.
But, there is something that stirs us in our sleep, something that causes us to run through the fog, searching for the mystery behind it all.
We are hungry and we are thirsty.
If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the only probable explanation is that I was made for another world. C.S. Lewis
If we want to see the impossible, if we want to witness the miraculous, if we want to be a part of revival, if we want to be used by God, we must be hungry.
When we have become satisfied with where we are at, I’m afraid we’re not pursuing after the mystery, after the highest mountaintop, and after the fullness of His presence.
Until He returns or He takes me home, I won’t be satisfied.
I feel myself breathing, I feel myself climbing the mountain, and I close my eyes. There is a joy that can’t be found in possessions here on earth. It is because those things were temporary. And, our souls were not created for temporary, we were created for eternity.
And, Jesus promises us that “Blessed are those which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6
“By humility and fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.” Proverbs 22:4
To be obsessed and to be consumed by His presence, to serve, to love and to give all that we are right where we are at, this is where He is calling us to.
I’ll admit. I have gotten distracted and I have searched for happiness through other things and desires of my heart. But, one night, I cried out.
I’m hungry. I want to know you and to be known by you. I’m desperate for more of Your presence, to feel the mystery of You in the depth of my being, to hear Your voice like never before, to see revival in our churches and in our communities, to receive my daily bread, your presence, every day.
So, in the morning, when you wake, find your mountaintop, wherever that might be. Search for Him, and pursue after that which deeply satisfies and ask for His bread.
“The fact that our heart yearns for something that earth can’t supply is proof that heaven is our home.” C.S. Lewis
Wherever you might be, trust Him, and pursue after Him. It’s a daily choice and it’s not always easiest. But, just like the Israelites, they became desperate for God when they ran out of manna(bread, which can also refer to His presence), and before they received the promise, they had to come to that moment of hunger and thirst that recognized He alone is all that satisfies. And, we can put all of our trust in Him.
So, darling, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and sing this melody.
“You are enough.”
These little words somehow they are changing us.
